Welcome to the Haggards Crowther newsletter.
We very much hope that our newsletters will be of interest to you. In this quarter's newsletter:
In addition to quarterly newsletters, we will also be sending occasional technical updates and reminders. If you have any comments or queries, please do not hesitate to let us know.
Technical Update: If you own a limited company and use commercial child care
If you are a director of a limited company and you have a child in nursery or with a commercial childcare provider, you will be able to pay up to £243 per month towards the cost of the childcare from your company. The expense is tax deductible in the company, and is not assessed as a benefit in kind for you as an individual. £243 per month is the limit you can pay through the company regardless of the number of children in childcare.
This is good news because £2,916 of childcare cost per annum can be put through your company, potentially saving £583 in corporation tax!
As ever, there are conditions. As a first step, speak to your child care provider to check that they are a registered childcare provider and happy to take part-payment from your company. Then, please give me a call to confirm the details, and to discuss any specific circumstances.
Haggards Crowther News: Welcome to George Parker
Welcome to George Parker, our latest recruit. George finished university in 2009, and after an extended gap year, worked for us over Christmas as an intern. We offered George a full time contract in February and he is now rolling his sleeves up on the bookkeeping and tax sides of the business. He has started studying for the Chartered Accountancy qualification, so friends may see a little less of him in the coming years, as his spare time gets soaked up preparing for exams. Nothing less than first time passes will be accepted – so no pressure George!
Client Focus: Little Jack Horners
James Hughes-Davies came to us in December 2009 to discuss starting his new pie business, Little Jack Horners. His plan was to start by selling in Farmers Markets around London with a view to expand to shops in south west London.
Haggards Crowther incorporated a limited company for James, advised on the correct accounting software solution and helped set him up on it, and then hand-held him through the first year of his business life, staying in the background but being there when he needed us.
We are now in the second year of the business relationship and everything is working well.
We like plugging our clients whenever we get the chance. Little Jack Horners is committed to producing the finest British comfort food, updating and reinventing traditional recipes for contemporary taste – for more about what James and Little Jack Horners is up to, click through to his website.
